Lamine Yamal wins 2025 Kopa Trophy

Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal has written his name into football history by winning the 2025 Kopa Trophy at the Ballon d’Or gala in Paris, becoming the first player ever to retain the award.
The 18-year-old Spaniard edged out fierce competition to be crowned the best young player in world football for the second year running.
His back-to-back triumph underlines a meteoric rise that has seen him evolve from a teenage prodigy into one of the most decisive players on the planet.
The forward’s performances over the past season were nothing short of spectacular. He played a crucial role in Barcelona’s domestic treble, winning the La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup.
He ended the campaign with 18 goals and 25 assists across all competitions. His creativity, composure, and ability to deliver in high-pressure matches have drawn comparisons to some of the game’s all-time greats.
On the international stage, Yamal has also been central to Spain’s resurgence, producing match-winning performances that have cemented his status as a cornerstone of the national team’s future. His maturity and consistency have stood out in a generation brimming with talent.
Accepting the award in Paris, Yamal expressed gratitude to his club, country, family, and teammates.
“This is a dream come true once again. I share this trophy with everyone who has helped me—my coaches, teammates, and fans. I promise to keep working hard to achieve more,” he said to applause.
With the Kopa Trophy secured for a second consecutive year, attention now turns to whether Yamal’s name might also be mentioned among the contenders for the Ballon d’Or itself.
