LASTMA apprehends driver for reckless driving, injuring pedestrian
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has apprehended a driver who drove recklessly and injured a pedestrian.
The LASTMA general manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said this in a statement signed by the agency’s spokesman, Taofiq Adebayo, on Sunday.
According to Mr Bakare-Oki, the driver of a Toyota Camry, bearing the registration number KTU 447 EV, recklessly sped through a busy section of Ewenla/Charity, near Oshodi, heading toward Mile 2.
“Tragically, the driver’s negligent actions resulted in the grievous injury of a pedestrian, who sustained severe bodily harm after being struck by the vehicle.
“LASTMA officers, who were present on the scene, rendered swift assistance to the injured individual by promptly rushing him to Comfort Hospital in the Mafoluku area of Oshodi for urgent medical care.
“The driver of the Toyota Camry was subsequently apprehended by LASTMA officers and in accordance with due procedure, both the driver and the vehicle were handed over to officers from the Mafoluku Police Station for further investigation into the circumstances of the accident,” he said.
Mr Bakare-Oki urged all road users to exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic regulations, emphasising that the safety of pedestrians and fellow motorists was paramount.
He expressed his deep concern for the victim’s well-being and extended heartfelt wishes for a swift and full recovery.
Mr Bakare-Oki also reiterated the agency’s commitment to ensuring that road safety laws are strictly enforced to prevent such tragedies in the future.
