LAWMA targets 24 Ajah-Lekki facilities for enforcement
Lagos Waste Management Authority has identified 24 markets, commercial and institutional facilities along the Ajah-Lekki axis for compliance enforcement over persistent violations of waste management and environmental regulations.
LAWMA managing director Muyiwa Gbadegesin said this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos. He said the facilities were identified during monitoring activities and were found to be in breach of approved waste management requirements.
The facilities are Kodak Moment, Bayrock Lifestyle, Caelum Nigeria, Alpha Pharmacy, Amazon Farm, Ramayaa Mall, Simply Africa Place, Aries Safia, Wolly Mall, Delightful Toy Shop, New Creation Church, The Logic Church, Dow Eye Clinic and Time Oak Hotel.
Also listed are L OMP, Furniture House, Fashion Design Factory, De Phantom Hotel, Elizade Motors, Trinity and Living Faith Church, as well as Premium Rentals, Christ Chapel Church and QMB Mart.
Mr Gbadegesin said LAWMA would take necessary enforcement measures against establishments that continued to default after being given opportunities to comply.
The latest action followed a monitoring and enforcement exercise conducted on Tuesday by LAWMA’s Project WISE team, in collaboration with officials from Kick Against Indiscipline, the military, and the Nigeria Police.
The exercise covered the Eleganza and Issa Imamu Market areas of Ajah. At Eleganza, the enforcement team dislodged illegal structures that traders erected along road corridors and pedestrian walkways, which LAWMA said obstructed motorists and pedestrians.
At Issa Imamu Market, the team sealed the facility over persistent, indiscriminate waste disposal along the roadside.
Mr Gbadegesin said the authority would combine stakeholder engagement and improved waste management services with firm enforcement to ensure compliance across the corridor. He stressed that businesses, markets and institutions operating in the area were expected to meet their waste management obligations and comply with approved environmental standards.
The LAWMA boss urged residents and business operators to cooperate with enforcement teams, warning against indiscriminate waste disposal and obstruction of public spaces. He reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to sustained monitoring, enforcement, and stakeholder engagement across Lagos.
