A member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly representing the Peoples Democratic Party, Luka Zhekaba, has disbursed N4.46 million as scholarship grants to 223 students studying in various higher institutions in the country.

Mr Zhekaba, the Minority Leader of the House, made the disbursement on Thursday in Duduguru, Obi Local Government Area of the state.

The Chairman, House Committee on Public Complaints, Petitions and Security, said that the gesture was part of his commitment to boosting education and ameliorating the burdens of his constituents.

According to him, each of the beneficiaries was given N20,000.

Mr Zhekaba said, “I have also been able to establish a foundation for girl-child education that offers free JAMB registration to female students and financial assistance for project writing to final year students of the constituency. Education remains the surest weapon that can change and shape our society positively for effective growth and development.”

The lawmaker pledged continued quality and inclusive representation at the state legislature.

He urged the students to ensure the judicious use of the money.

Mr Zhekaba urged them and other students to shun examination malpractice, drugs abuse and other social vices to excel in their academic pursuits.

Earlier, Chairman, Scholarship Award Committee, Ashikpo Joseph, urged the students to study hard and stay focused on their studies.

Responding, Franca Bulus and Sunday Baba, who spoke on behalf of their colleagues thanked the lawmaker for the gesture and prayed God to bless him abundantly.
