Lawmaker sentenced to prison for mocking Tunisian President Saied on Facebook

A Tunisian lawmaker, Ahmed Saidani, has been sentenced to eight months in prison for mocking President Kais Saied in a social media post.
On Thursday, a Tunisian court handed Mr Saidani an eight-months jail term for his trouble.
Reacting to Mr Saied’s visit to areas affected by flood in a Facebook post, Mr Saidani said, “It seems that the new title will be the Supreme Tunisian lawmaker, Ahmed Saidani, and Rainwater Drainage.
“Of course, this is not a mockery of his majesty, nor a mockery of a patriotic man who works as mayor and employee of the sanitation department at the same time.”
The lawmaker was arrested and prosecuted after the post.
