LeBron, Bronny James make NBA history as father-son duo

In a historic moment for the NBA, LeBron James and his son Bronny debuted as the first father-son duo to play together on the same team during a pre-season game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Phoenix Suns.
This historic game was held on Bronny’s 20th birthday, though it ended in a 118-114 defeat.
Entering the game in the second quarter, Bronny’s participation marked an unprecedented event in basketball history, as no father and son had ever played simultaneously in an NBA game, including pre-season contests.
“That was surreal,” LeBron wrote on X following the game.
“We came out of a timeout and stood next to each other. I looked at him, and it was like being in The Matrix. It didn’t feel real, but it was incredible to share those moments,” he described the moment in a post-game press conference.
LeBron contributed 19 points, alongside four assists and five rebounds, while Bronny, despite a challenging outing, finished with two rebounds and four turnovers in his 13 minutes on the court.
Bronny was drafted by the Lakers as a second-round pick from the University of Southern California in June. His father, now 39 years old and the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, is entering his 22nd season in the league.
The 2024-25 NBA season is set to commence on October 22, with the Lakers scheduled to face the Minnesota Timberwolves following the Boston Celtics’ matchup against the New York Knicks.
