Leeds edge West Ham on penalties to reach FA Cup semifinals

Leeds United beat West Ham United on penalties after a dramatic 2-2 draw and a penalty shootout to reach the FA Cup semifinals, bookingtheir trip to Wembley Stadium.
Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final tie saw West Ham face Leeds at the London Stadium, with Ao Tanaka giving the visitors the lead from a fine delivery by Noah Okafor.
Nuno EspÃrito Santo’s side struggled in the first half and after the break, as Dominic Calvert-Lewin doubled the lead to make it 2-0 for Leeds from the penalty spot, following a challenge from Max Kilman on Brenden Aaronson.
Daniel Farke’s side looked like clear winners, but it took a splendid turn as West Ham equalised in added time with two goals. The first came from a follow-up effort by Mateus Fernandes, while Axel Disasi scored his first for the club with an assist from Adama Traoré.
The game went into extra time, with West Ham scoring twice, but both goals were ruled out for offside. The Hammer also suffered another setback as Areola picked up an injury just before the shootout, allowing young goalkeeper Finlay Herrick to step in for the Frenchman.
The penalty shootout saw the Hammers miss from the spot twice, asLucas Perri denied Jarrod Bowen and Pablo Fornals. Despite an opening save for West Ham by Herrick, Leeds missed only one penalty through Joel Piroe, while the rest were converted.
The 4-2 victory sends Leeds United into the FA Cup semifinals for the first time in 39 years. For West Ham United, the result marks their ninth elimination in their last 10 FA Cup quarter-final ties.
Leeds will now travel to Wembley Stadium to face Southampton, who secured a 2-1 victory against Arsenal on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Chelsea will face Manchester City at Wembley after the Blues thrashed League One side Port Vale 7-0, and City edged Liverpool4-0.
