Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has urged his supporters to forgive whoever wronged or persecuted them during the August 15 governorship election in the state.

Mr Adeleke stated this on Tuesday in a statement commemorating this year’s Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration, urging the people to reject divisions for peace and stability of the state.

“As we move beyond the election, I call on all of us to forgive our persecutors, heal our wounds and reject division. Let us resuscitate the Osun we all desire; a state where we live peacefully, worship freely and prosper together,” the governor stated.

Mr Adeleke appreciated the prayers and support of citizens, saying “leadership must be guided by peace, compassion, forgiveness and service to humanity.”

Mr Adeleke of the Accord Party defeated Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress in the governorship election to secure second term in office.

In the build-up to the poll, there were allegations and counter-allegations of violent killings by parties and candidates.

Meanwhile, Mr Adeleke vowed to investigate election-related violence and killings.

On Monday, the governor inaugurated a committee on election violence victims and released N500 million from the state’s Election Violence Victims Relief Endowment Fund for affected persons.
