Liverpool complete signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen

Liverpool have officially announced the signing of German international Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen with the midfielder penning a long-term contract that will keep him at Anfield until at least 2030.
The deal was finalised on Friday following the successful completion of his medical at the club’s training facility.
The agreement stands as a record-breaking signing for Liverpool, including a guaranteed £100 million fee plus an additional £16 million in add-ons. It surpasses Liverpool’s previous club record of £75 million for Virgil van Dijk in 2018.
Wirtz’s move to Anfield would also set a new British transfer record, from the £107 million Chelsea paid Benfica for Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez in 2023.
He is set to earn £245,000 per week, which amounts to around £12.7 million annually, under his new five-year contract with Liverpool.
The German International scored 57 goals in 197 Leverkusen appearances and also clinched their first ever Bundesliga title netting a hat-trick in their unbeaten campaign.
Florian becomes Liverpool’s second major addition this summer and the second player acquired from the Bundesliga runners-up, following the acquisition of Dutch right-back Jeremie Frimpong for £29.5 million last month
Speaking on the move, Wirtz said he’s aiming for the highest honours “I would like to win everything every year. First of all, we have to do our work,”
He continued, “Last season they won the Premier League, so my goal is for sure to win it again and also to go further in the Champions League. I’m really ambitious.”
Looking forward to life in England, he added: “I’m really excited to have a new adventure in front of me. This was also a big point of my thoughts: that I want to have something completely new, to go out of the Bundesliga and to join the Premier League.”
“I will see how I can perform there. I hope I can do my best.”
The midfielder also revealed that conversations with current and former Premier League players influenced his decision:
“I also spoke with some players who played there and they told me that it’s perfect for me and every pitch is perfect, you can enjoy every game. I’m really looking forward to playing my first game.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool has also reached an agreement with Bournemouth for left-back Milos Kerkez, with the transfer fee reportedly worth £40 million. The Hungarian international had already given his approval for the move two months ago, as first reported in May.
