The Labour Party (LP) has reaffirmed confidence in its 2027 presidential ticket during an interactive session with its vice-presidential candidate, Hajja Konto, in Abuja.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

The LP National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, said Ms Konto’s nomination reflected the party’s commitment to equity, inclusion and social justice in Nigeria’s democratic process.

Ms Usman said the choice aligned with the party’s “Mama, Papa, Pikin” philosophy, which promotes equal opportunities and inclusive leadership across all segments of society.

She said the Labour Party remained the only major political party fielding a woman as vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

The chairman expressed confidence that Ms Konto’s professional achievements and humanitarian experience would strengthen governance if elected alongside the party’s presidential candidate, Dr Chibuzo Okereke.

Ms Usman also praised the Abia State Governor Alex Otti, describing him as the Labour Party’s poster child whose administration exemplified people-centred governance through social welfare initiatives.

She urged Nigerians to support the Labour Party in future elections, saying developments in Abia demonstrated the party’s capacity to deliver democratic dividends.

Mr Okereke welcomed Ms Konto as his running mate, describing her as humble, dependable and experienced, stressing that women remained indispensable to national development.

He said excluding women from governance was comparable to attempting to clap with one hand, given their contributions to Nigeria’s growth and population.

Mr Okereke praised Me Konto’s record in development and public health, expressing confidence that their combined experience would advance national renewal if elected in 2027.

He also commended Ms Usman’s leadership, describing her as instrumental in Ms Konto’s emergence and an inspiration to women seeking greater political participation.

Ms Konto thanked the party leadership for the confidence reposed in her and praised Ms Usman for her commitment to justice, fairness and national service.

She pledged to serve diligently if elected, recalling her humanitarian work assisting Boko Haram victims despite losing her husband during the insurgency.

Ms Konto said her humanitarian experience would help address Nigeria’s security challenges, adding that the Labour Party offered the clearest vision for rebuilding the nation.

According to the party, the session, underscored its unity and determination to present competent, compassionate and transformational leadership for the 2027 general elections.
