The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) has urged health workers to be on alert in the phase of the second wave of COVID-19.

Chief Medical Director, Chris Bode in a statement obtained by Peoples Gazette on Wednesday, said the second wave of the pandemic is deadlier than the previous wave, saying workers should be prepared to confront the pandemic again.

Mr. Bode worries over the “careless activities happening on streets, religious centers, and other social places.” He said people are still celebrating false victory amidst the pandemic, thereby ignoring the dangers.

He appeals to Lagosians to shun all social engagement and observe the basic COVID-19 safety measures.

“We have seen an upsurge in the number of people who keep treating “Malaria” instead of going for the COVID test.

“Many of such then start using all sorts of steam inhalation and home remedies for their Cough and Chest Congestion.

“It is not helpful to do this, especially if you are also diabetic, hypertensive or with a number of other health baggages, or above the age of 60,” Mr. Bode said, adding that many of the death recorded were of people who visited the hospital late.

Lagos has always topped the list of the recorded COVID-19 cases nationwide. Data from the NCDC on Tuesday showed that Lagos recorded 712 out of 1,354 new cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

The Gazette reports that Tuesday recorded cases are the highest ever.
