Three female journalists have been arrested in connection with protests that began after the mysterious death of a 22-year-old lady, Mahsa Amini, in police custody.

“In the past 48 hours, at least three female journalists, namely Melika Hashemi, Saideh Shafiei and Mehrnoush Zarei, have been arrested in Tehran,” Etemad newspaper quoted the Tehran journalists’ union as saying.

The publication reported that the female journalists had been transported to Evin Prison, where other demonstrators were being held.

Ms Amini died in custody of the morality police on September 16 after she had been arrested for violating the women’s dress code.

Her unexplained death sparked public outrage as Iranians took to streets to protest the injustice.

Since the protests started four months ago, at least 80 journalists, according to Etemad publications, have been detained in Iran.

Etemad newspapers asserted Iranian authorities have arrested at least 80 journalists since the protests began four months ago.
