Major U.S. airport bans pyjamas for passengers amid growing grumble over indecent dressing

The management argued that the situation has got to an extreme to warrant banning the sleeping apparel at the Florida-based airport.

Tampa International Airport, a major travel hub in the United States, has announced a new policy banning passengers from wearing pyjamas in its terminals amid what officials described as a growing wave of complaints over indecent and inappropriate dressing.

In a statement on Thursday, the airport management said they were fed up with the prevalence of indecent clothing on its premises, with passengers often wearing pyjamas during the day.

The management argued that the situation has got to an extreme to warrant banning the sleeping apparel at the Florida-based airport.

“We’ve seen enough. We’ve had enough. It’s time to ban pyjamas at Tampa International Airport,” it said. “After successfully banning Crocs and giving everyone the amazing opportunity to experience the world’s first Crocs-free airport, it’s time to take on an even larger crisis.”

Speaking further, the management noted it understands the new policy could disrupt many passengers but urged them to endure the latest development to help end the “madness” and keep Tampa airport Crocs and pyjamas-free.

“We know this decision could be disruptive to someone in your life. It’s time to have a difficult conversation with them. You can do this. We (and Phoebe) believe in you.

“The madness stops today. The movement starts now. Help Tampa International Airport become the world’s first Crocs-free AND pyjama-free airport. Do your part. Say no to pyjamas at TPA,” the management added.

The statement has since sparked mixed reactions online, with some supporting the move and others arguing that the airport should not concern itself with passengers’ fashion choices.

“What kind of authoritarian bullshit is this? How are you even classifying clothing as pyjamas to begin with? Are sweatpants, yoga pants, and children wearing soft clothes and pyjamas? Fuck this rule. Never flying to Tampa ever again—and I’ve never flown wearing pyjamas,” an X user, Rebekah Jones, commented.

Another X user, @Luis, also disagreed with the policy, stating, “Y’all may need to focus on more important things than people wearing pyjamas and Crocs. With the prices people are paying for travel, they should be able to wear whatever they want.”

Similarly, @KwenMayé stated, “This is funny. People wear what’s comfortable because they have to sit for over an hour and want to feel relaxed. You just boycotted a business for yourself, and we know you don’t actually care about it,” another X user, Kwen Mayé, stated.

However, Plumeria8405 disagreed, writing, “You can dress appropriately & be comfortable. Pyjamas are for sleeping in—not for wearing out and about.”

“There used to be a time when Americans would dress up when they travelled. How Americans dress now speaks volumes as to where our national soul is at. Just go to any Walmart to see it,” Scott Collins also wrote in support of the ban.
