On Tuesday, the Oyo State government revealed that since 2022, over 7,000 eligible workers have been promoted.

The state’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, disclosed this in Ibadan after the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting.

“The Makinde-led government has conducted the 2017–2021 promotion exercise as well as approved the 2022 promotion,’’ he said.

Mr Oyelade added that the exercise was consistent with the government’s policy on workers’ welfare within the last four years.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Musbau Babatunde, disclosed that SEC had approved the realignment of the 2023 supplementary budget.

He said the supplementary budget would soon be presented to the state House of Assembly for approval.

Mr Babatunde further explained that the supplementary budget was necessitated following subsidy removal and the exchange rate unification.

However, the Budget and Economic Planning Commissioner said there was an increment in the 2023 budget from N310.4 billion to N352.3 billion.

He said this was to realign the funds in some Ministries, Departments, and Agencies and reflect economic realities.

Mr Babatunde added that the state government was currently negotiating with organised labour on other demands that would be included in the supplementary budget.

“The medium-term expenditure framework (MTEF), on which the 2024 budget would be premised, has been approved by the council,’’ he stated.

Mr Babatunde said the approved figure for this is N424.4 billion, an increase of N69.2 billion, representing 19.49 per cent over the 2023 pre-empted figure of N355.1 billion.

“The current realigned budget of N352.3 billion mirrors Oyo State government’s projection perfectly for 2023,’’ he said.

The commissioner said it was expected that the MTEF would be a good guide for the fiscal balance of the 2024 budget.
