Malaysia increases support for exporters amid Middle East crisis

The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) says it is intensifying efforts to assist Malaysian exporters navigating disruptions caused by the ongoing Middle East crisis.
In a statement following a webinar on the issue, MATRADE stressed its commitment to keeping exporters informed and agile as geopolitical tensions reshape global trade routes, increase logistics costs, and alter market dynamics.
The Chief Executive Officer, Abu Bakar Yusof, said that the agency was collaborating closely with its overseas network and industry stakeholders to help businesses remain resilient.
Webinar panellists recommend that exporters adopt proactive strategies, including diversifying into new markets, adjusting shipment terms, strengthening buyer verification, and leveraging digital tools and artificial intelligence to enhance efficiency.
Despite rising logistics costs, MATRADE said the situation remained manageable, with emerging trade routes and partnerships providing opportunities.
The agency added that Malaysia was well-positioned to reinforce its role as a reliable and strategic supplier in global markets.
