Man, 21, in court over alleged assault, causing harm

The offences contravene the provisions of Sections 355 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The police on Wednesday dragged a 21-year-old man, Ibrahim Elijah, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly assaulting and causing harm to a complainant.

Mr Elijah, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on charges bordering on conspiracy and assault.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Elisha Tellang, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 3 at E99 Event Center in Oluyole, Ibadan.

He alleged that the defendant conspired with others now at large to assault one Chigozie Awurum with a cutlass and also poured tear gas on his body.

He alleged that the complainant was taken to the hospital following the assault.

The offences contravene the provisions of Sections 355 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The magistrate, Moyosore Atanda, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until April 1 for hearing.
