Man, 25, gets six-month jail term for stealing school window frames

A Customary Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, on Thursday, sentenced a 25-year-old man, Samuel Ponring, to six-month jail term for stealing.aluminium window frames.
The Judge, Patience Baryat, sentenced Ponring, after he pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of criminal trespass, mischief and stealing.
The court, however, gave the convict an option of N60,000 fine.
The court sentenced the convict to a term of three months imprisonment for the offence of criminal trespass, with an option of N20,000 fine.
The court sentenced the convict to a term of three months imprisonment for the offence of mischief with an option of N10, 000 fine, while a term of six months imprisonment was ruled for the offence of stealing, with an option of N30, 000 fine.
The court held that the sentences shall run concurrently.
In the charge, the prosecutor, ASP Esther Bishen, told the court that the complainant, Babatunde Ajala, reported the case at a police station on March 31.
Ms Bishen said that the defendant had entered the premises of Solid Rock Primary and Secondary School, and removed two aluminium window frames, worth N70, 000.
She said that the convict was apprehended by some guards, adding that during investigation the convict confessed to the crime.
Before conviction, the defendant begged the court for leniency, adding that he would turn a new leaf.
