Man, 28, remanded over alleged felony, malicious damage

The police on Thursday dragged a 28-year-old man, Idris Sanni, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, over alleged malicious damage.
Mr Sanni, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on charges bordering on attempt to commit a felony, malicious damage and conduct likely to cause the breach of peace.
He pleaded guilty to count two (malicious damage) but pleaded not guilty to counts one and three.
The Magistrate, Oluwaferanmi Raji, ordered that the defendant be remanded at the correctional facility until June 30, for review of facts on count two.
On counts one and three, the court granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
In the charge, the prosecutor, Elisha Tellang, alleged that the defendant committed the offences sometime in April at about 9:00 a.m. at the Dapo Layande area of Ibadan.
Mr Tellang alleged that the defendant wilfully damaged some parts of a tricycle belonging to one Mr Wasiu Yusuf.
He also alleged that the defendant collected the tricycle from Mr Yusuf under the pretext of trading with it on daily delivery but took the tricycle to an unknown place and abandoned it there without the consent of the owner.
According to him, the damaged parts worth N244,000.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by his action
The offences contravene the provisions of Sections 249(d), 451 and 508 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
