Man, 30, arraigned over alleged conversion of funds

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

The police on Tuesday charged a 30-year-old man, Abdullahi Mohammed, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, over alleged fraud.

The defendant, of Ajilosun Area in Ado-Ekiti, is standing trial on a one-count charge bordering on conversion of fund.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Inspector  Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 26 at about 04:00 p.m. at Nexaflow Distribution Ltd Store in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant, an employee of the company fraudulently stole cash in the sum of N777, 492 belonging to the Nexaflow Distribution Ltd Store, which was entrusted to him.

He was alleged to have converted it to his own use.

Mr Apata said that the offence contravenes the provisions of section 295 and punishable under Section 302(8b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The Magistrate, Olatomiwa Daramola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case until March 23 for hearing.(NAN)
