A 32-year-old sales representative, Yakubu Temitope, on Wednesday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing cartons of maltina and climax pets valued at N1.1 million.

The defendant of No. 10, Oke Ebedo Street in Ilawe-Ekiti, is standing trial on a two-count charge of stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Olasunkanmi Bamikole, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 1, 2024, in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant, a sales representative of OFAGE beer company, stole 40 cartons of maltina pet and 40 cartons of climax pet worth N1.1 million.

He also alleged that the defendant converted the money belonging to the company into his own personal use.

Mr Bamikole equally alleged that the defendant stole 40 cartons of maltina pet worth N180,000 belonging to one Bankole Olarewaju of the company.

He noted that the offence contravened Section 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

The Counsel to the defendant, Olalekan Daramola, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Adefunke Anoma, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

Ms Anoma said that the sureties must be an executive member of the Landlords Association in the community.

She adjourned the case until September 9, for hearing.
