Man, 34, arraigned for allegedly stealing goods worth N36.4 million

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 411 and 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

A 34-year-old man, Aderogba Adebowale, on Thursday appeared before an Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing items valued at N36.4 million.

The defendant, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP Aminu Isaac, told the court that the defendant and others still at large committed the offences between September and October at No. 1, Salah Road, Mowokekere area of Ikorodu.

According to him, the defendant stole items valued at N36.4 million belonging to the complainant, Akama Maloba.

Some of the items stolen include 1,000 cartons of Geeji bitters valued at N15 million, seven drums of Eternol gin valued at N3.36 million, 10,000 pieces of bottles valued at N1 million, and Geeji stickers valued at N1 million.

Others include a water purifier valued at N350,000, a water plant machine valued at N1.5 million, two air conditioners valued at N1.68 million, and other household items valued at N13 million.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 411 and 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr B. A. Sonuga, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N3 million, with two sureties in like sum.

He ordered that one of the sureties must be a level 15 civil servant with a verifiable address and adjourned the case until December 18 for mention.
