A 35-year-old man, Kayode Fagbamila, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged shop breaking and stealing.

Fagbamila, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge of shop breaking and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 30 at about 11:00 p.m. in Ado-Ekiti.

He said that the defendant broke into the shop of one Ogbona Victor.

Mr Oriyomi stated that the defendant also stole MP3, smart watch, power bank and other phone accessory, all valued at N2 million, property of the complainant.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 324(1) and (2) and 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

Counsel to the defendant, Busuyi Ayorinde, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until September 5 for hearing.
