An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a 37-year-old man, Oluwafemi Lekan, in a correctional centre for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl.

The Magistrate, Olubunmi Bamidele, ordered the remand of the defendant pending issuance of legal advice by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Ekiti State.

The plea of the defendant was, however, not taken.

The police had through a Form K application sought the remand of the defendant pending the legal advice from the DPP office.

The prosecutor, ASP Osuolale Yomi, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence against the 12-year-old girl on May 10 in Efon Alaaye-Ekiti.

He explained that the defendant stopped the minor, told her that he was her father’s brother, and asked her to follow him to his house to take something.

He alleged that when the defendant took her inside his house, he raped her.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 31 of the Child Right Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

He urged the court to remand the defendant pending legal advice from the DPP.

The magistrate adjourned the case until June 24 for mention.
