Man, 40, arraigned for allegedly receiving stolen phones

The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

The police on Wednesday dragged a 40-year-old man, Awopegba Ademola, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly receiving stolen mobile phones.

The defendant whose address, was not stated, is standing trial on a charge of receiving stolen phones.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 15 in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant received 13 different stolen phones from one Ahmed Tijani.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant received the phones, knowing same to be stolen.

He said that the offence contravenes the provisions of section 343(2) (a) and (b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case untill March 24, for hearing.(NAN)
