Man, 42, arraigned over alleged N37.5 million Montenegro visa fraud 

The Chief Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of five million naira, with three sureties in like sum.

The police on Wednesday, dragged  a 42-year-old man, Isiaka Adesiyan, before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, over alleged N37.5 million visa fraud.

The defendant whose address was not stated,a is  standing trial on charges bordering on forgery, fraud and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekp,  told the Court that the defendant committed the offences in January and March, at about 9.30.a.m, in Badagry.

He alleged that the defendant presented a forged Turkish Airline tickets to some complainants namely Julius Emmanuel, Segun Here, Ofurum Christina and Eleto Afeez.

Others are Eleto Toyin, Agoro Adefolarin, Nwakonkwo Emmanuel, Ofurum Mark, Joseph Oluwatobi, Mepagbe Wanignoa, Afodewu Joshua and Adeyemo Gbenga.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant obtained a total sum of N37.5 million from the complainants with a promise to help them purchase a Monténégro and Andorra working visas and tickets.

He alleged that the defendant converted the money to his own use without the consent of the owners.

The prosecutor said that he was eventually arrested by the police.

The offences contravene the provisions of sections 287, 314, 363, and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of five million naira, with three sureties in  like sum.

He adjourned the case until May 13, for mention. (NAN)
