A 45-year-old man, Kayode Onayiga, on Wednesday appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, over an alleged land fraud.

Onayiga, whose address was not provided, was charged with obtaining money under false pretence and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, CPL David Adepoju, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in June at Akanran, Ibadan.

Mr Adepoju alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N1.5 million from one Tajudeen Ashimolowo, with the pretext of purchasing five acres of land for him, but failed to do so.

He said that the defendant rather converted the money to his personal use.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene the provisions of Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Kausarat Ayofe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million and two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until February 9, 2026, for hearing.
