Man, 47, in court over alleged gold fraud

The magistrate adjourned the case until May 25, for hearing.

A 47-year-old man, Abdul Bashir, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court Ibadan, Oyo: State, over an alleged gold fraud.

Bashir, whose address was not provided, was charged with obtaining money under false pretence and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, ASP Femi Omilana, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on December 25, 2025, at about 10.00 a.m., at Sabo area of Ibadan.

Omilana alleged that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N1, 539,200 from Olusola Usman, with the pretext of selling 18 Karat gold to him.

He said the defendant failed to do so and rather converted the money to his personal use.

Omilana said the offences contravened provisions of Sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Adebola Adeola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million and two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until May 25, for hearing. (NAN)
