Man, 50, arraigned over alleged land fraud

The police on Tuesday, dragged a 50-year-old man, Adewale Yusuff, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly defrauding a complainant of N820,000 in the guise of selling land.
The defendant whose address was not provided, is standing trial on charges bordering on obtaining money by false pretence.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Inspector Omolade Adetule, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in March, 2025, at Idi-Ayunre area of Ibadan.
She alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N820,000 from one Sunday Stanley, under the pretext of allocating a plot of land to him.
She alleged that the defendant failed to allocate the land, but converted the money to his personal use.
The offence contravenes the provision of Section 419 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with two reliable sureties in like sum.
She held that the sureties must be blood relations of the defendant.
The court adjourned the case until March 17, for hearing.
