Man, 60, arraigned over alleged N1 million fraud

A 60 –year- old, Wale Akinyele, is facing an alleged N1 million fraud charge at Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Oyo State.
The defendant, whose house address was not disclosed, is being tried on two count charges bordering on fraud and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. David Adepoju told the court that the defendant, sometime in August, at about 4:00 p. m at Orita Challenge, Ibadan, Oyo State, allegedly under false pretext, obtained N1 million from Adedeji Olayiwola.
Mr Adepoju said the defendant allegedly obtained the sum under the pretence that he would pay it as service charge to a government agent regulating issuance certificate of installation of transformer.
But the prosecutor told the court that the defendant failed to remit the N1 million, which he allegedly converted for his use.
Mr Adepoju said the offence contravened Sections 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ogunkanmi said one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant.
She adjourned the matter until December 1, 2024.
