Man arraigned for allegedly stealing N2.2 million church property in Ibadan

The court adjourned the case until October 7 for a hearing.

The police on Friday arraigned a 49-year-old man, Bode Olayiwola, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly stealing church property valued at N2.2 million.

Mr Olayiwola is standing trial on a charge of theft.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Samuel Owolabi, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on July 15 at about 2:00 a.m. at the Church of the Lord, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.

Mr Owolabi alleged that the defendant stole a generator, fans, an amplifier, car batteries and other church property valued at N2.2 million.

According to him, the offence contravenes Section 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The magistrate, Gladys Olanrewaju, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million, requiring two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until October 7 for a hearing.
