Man arraigned for allegedly stealing N4.75 million bakery goods

The police on Thursday arraigned a 27-year-old man, Moses Adepoju, before an Oredo Chief Magistrates’ Court in Benin for allegedly stealing goods worth N4.75 million from a bakery.
Mr Adepoju is facing a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
The prosecutor, Gana Gana, told the court that on August 4, Mr Adepoju and others still at large allegedly conspired and burgled Merci Bakery on Aideyan Street, GRA, Benin.
He alleged that the defendant broke into the bakery at night and stole three air conditioners valued at N1 million and a 6.5 KVA generator valued at N850,000.
He said the defendant also stole four 50kg gas cylinders valued at N1 million and two sound speakers worth N900,000.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant also stole two sacks of bread pans valued at N1 million from the same premises.
He said the total value of the items allegedly stolen was N4.75 million, and that they belonged to Osariemen Mercy.
He said the offences contravened Sections 412(1), 313, 294(1) and 294(2) of the Criminal Law of Edo, 2022.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Caroline Oghuma, granted him bail in the sum of N150,000 with one surety in like sum.
She ordered that the defendant and the surety must provide evidence of their NIN, valid identity cards and two passport photographs.
She added that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and that the court registrar must verify all information.
Ms Oghuma adjourned the case until September 16 for hearing.Â
