Man arraigned over alleged drug trafficking in Lagos

A 24-year-old man, Yusuf Taofeek, was on Thursday arraigned in a Federal High Court in Lagos over alleged drug trafficking.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) charged Mr Taofeek with conspiracy and illegal transportation of restricted narcotics.
In the charge signed by the NDLEA prosecutor, Lambert Nor, the defendant was alleged to have committed the offences at the VGC area of Lekki, Lagos, with others who were now at large.
Mr Nor alleged that the defendant and his accomplices illegally transported 4,238kg of cannabis into Lagos, but were eventually intercepted by operatives of the agency.
According to the prosecutor, cannabis is a narcotic similar to cocaine, heroine or other psychotropic substances listed in the NDLEA schedule as banned.
Nor therefore, said that the offences contravened the provisions of sections 11(c) and 14(b), of the NDLEA Act, Cap 30, Laws of the Federation 2004.
However, no date has been fixed for further hearing of the matter.
