Man arraigned over alleged N5 million cable theft in Ibadan

A 26-year-old man, Isah Uzepa, on Monday appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan over an alleged N5 million cable wire theft.
The suspect, whose address was not provided, was charged with house entry, theft and malicious damage.
He, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Olalekan Adegbite said the defendant committed the offences on May 26 at about 5.00 p.m. in the Ologuneru area of Ibadan.
Mr Adegbite alleged that the defendant entered Joseph Akhagbemhe’s house and stole a cable wire worth N5 million.
He alleged that the defendant also maliciously damaged other cables in Mr Akhagbemhe’s house.
He said the offences contravened provisions of Sections 390(9), 412 and 451 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Kausarat Ayofe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million and two sureties.
Mrs Ayofe also held that the sureties must be gainfully employed, while one of them must be closely related to the defendant.
She, thereafter, adjourned the case until August 11 for hearing.
