Man arraigned over alleged theft of cooking items worth N840,000

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the changes against him.

A 45-year-old man, Akinola Oluwauyi, was on Tuesday appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over the alleged theft of cooking items valued at N840,000.

The defendant, whose address was not disclosed, is standing trial on a two-count charge of felony, namely stealing and stealing.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Inspector Adegeshin Famuyiwa, told the court that the offence was committed on December 5, 2025 at about 7:30 a.m., at Ita-Oluwa area of Ikorodu.

Mr Famuyiwa said the defendant allegedly conspired with others at large and stole 12.5kg cylinder, 40 plates and pots, one deep frying pot, four burners and other items valued at N840,000.

The prosecutor said that the items belonged to a complainant, one Amaka Nwadei.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, O. A. Ogbe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Ogbe ordered that the sureties must have verified addresses and adjourned the case until February 19 for mention.
