Man arrested over defilement of 13-year-old girl in Kwara

A 33-year-old man, Moshood Banke, has been arrested in the Basin area of Ilorin, Kwara State, over the alleged defilement of a 13-year-old girl.
The arrest was disclosed on Thursday by Shola Ayoola, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command.
“The suspect was arrested on the 1st of November 2026 following a report by the victim’s family concerning an incident alleged to have occurred on the 17th of October 2026,” he said.
Mr Ayoola explained that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly accosted the minor while she was returning from an errand and forcibly took her into an uncompleted building within the neighbourhood, where the alleged sexual assault occurred.
“Further findings revealed that the suspect was familiar with the victim’s family and regularly patronised her mother’s food vending business.
“Following the incident, he reportedly fled the area but was subsequently sighted by the victim on the 1st of November 2026 and apprehended by NSCDC operatives,” he said.
He added that a medical examination conducted on the victim indicated a history of sexual abuse, providing further relevant findings for the ongoing investigation.
