Man arrested over forged presidency number plate in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command has arrested a man for allegedly using a forged presidential number plate on a Lexus LX570 SUV in Maitama district of Abuja.
In a statement on Thursday, the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said the suspect was intercepted on Wednesday at about 8:00 p.m.
She said, “On 20th October 2026, at about 8:00 p.m., Police operatives intercepted a Lexus LX570 SUV with a concealed number plate in Maitama District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“The vehicle and its occupant were promptly arrested for investigation and subsequent prosecution.”
Ms Adeh said preliminary investigations showed that the concealed number plate bore the inscription “PRESIDENCY” and registration number 10B218 FG.
She added that following the suspect’s claim of being the legitimate holder of the number plate, further investigations revealed that the plate’s registration documents were forged.
The police explained that the suspect was impersonating a permanent secretary attached to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
She added that investigations were ongoing, and the suspect would be charged to court upon their conclusion.
