Man bags 15-month jail term for duping businessman N184,000
An Area Court in Jos, Plateau State on Wednesday sentenced Ayodele Afariogun, to 15 months imprisonment for duping a businessman of N184,000.
The judge, Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the offence.
The judge, however, gave the convict, in the first instance, an option of N30,000 fine or three months jail for swindling.
Mr Bokkos added that the convict should also pay a compensation of N184,000 to the complainant or be convicted for 12 months if he defaulted.
Earlier, the police Prosecutor, Inspector Monday Dabit, told the court that the case was reported at the A Division Police Station, Jos, on August 8 by one Ibrahim Dahiru.
Mr Dabit said the convict was given the sum N184,000 to purchase seven jerrycans of palm oil, in May, instead the convict converted the money into his personal use and refused to supply the palm oil or refund the money.
The prosecutor told the court that during police investigation, the convict confessed to have committed the offence.
