Man beaten to death for stealing N2,000 watermelon

A middle-aged man, Ibrahim Hashimu, of Warji Local Government Area of Bauchi state, has been beaten to death by four persons for stealing watermelon worth two thousand naira (2000).
Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, Mr Hashimu, went into the farm and stole 7 pieces of watermelon.
However, his luck ran out when he was caught by the farm owner who, with the help of three others, beat him to a pulp.
The four suspects were subsequently arrested as police commenced investigation into the murder.
The Bauchi state commissioner of police, Aminu Alhassan, frowned at the action of the suspects, who, instead of reporting the case for proper investigation and prosecution, took laws into their hands.
He directed that the case be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Bauchi for discreet investigation and assured members of the public that justice will be served accordingly.
