Man City bottle two-goal lead to draw Tottenham in title race setback

Manchester City failed to close the gap between themselves and league leaders Arsenal as Pep Guardiola’s side bottled a two-lead to settle for a 2-2 draw against Tottenham on Sunday.
The result meant that City allowed Arsenal to maintain a six-point lead in the battle for the league title after the Gunners thrashed Leeds United 4-0 at the Elland Road in their own game on Saturday.
Rayan Cherki put City ahead in the 11th minute after the France international received a pass from Erling Haaland before firing a low shot past goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
The visitors doubled their lead just before halftime through Antoine Semenyo who only had to put one touch on a cross into the box by Bernardo Silva to give City a comfortable advantage heading into the break.
Eight minutes into the second half, Dominic Solake reduced the deficit for a rejuvenated Tottenham side after he swept home a through ball from Xavi Simons.
The England international got his brace in the 70th minute after he met a perfectly-placed by Conor Gallagher with a scorpion-kick to score a sensational equaliser for Tottenham, which was enough to secure a point for the hosts.
Speaking after the game, Semenyo said “First half we played really well. The mentality was to do the same again. That didn’t happen in the second half and they dominated. Everyone is visibly frustrated and we go again.”
He added, “I couldn’t tell you (why) if I’m honest. They started picking up momentum and had a couple of chances. Getting the crowd into it helped. The crowd was behind them (Tottenham) and it definitely helps.”
