The police command in Jigawa State has detained a 25-year-old man for allegedly killing his younger brother’s wife in the Jahun Local Government of the state.

The command spokesman, SP Lawan Shiisu, confirmed this in a statement in Dutse on Thursday.

Mr Shiisu said the suspect also inflicted injuries on his neighbour’s daughter during the incident, which occurred on Wednesday in Gunka Village.

The suspect, name withheld, suspected to be mentally unstable, was alleged to have attacked his younger brother’s wife and his neighbour’s daughter with a pestle.

Mr Shiisu noted, “The tragic incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m, prompting an immediate response from a patrol team to the scene. The victims were rushed to the General Hospital, Jahun for medical attention. One of victims identified as Ummi Sale aged 20, died while on admission, while the other identified as Hauwa Alkasim, aged six, is still responding to treatment.”

According to him, the remains of the deceased have been released to her relatives for burial.

Mr Shiisu said the suspect was currently in police custody while investigations continued.

He, however, assured that a thorough medical evaluation would be performed to determine the suspect’s mental state.

The spokesperson assured that the command remained committed to the safety and security of all residents.
