Man docked for assaulting Ikeja DisCo staff

On Tuesday, a 24-year-old man, Peter Orji, appeared before the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for assaulting a staff of the Ikeja Electric Distributor Company (IKEDC).
Mr Orji faces a two-count charge of conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and assault.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Christian Okonofua, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 22, at about 10:00 p.m. at Ogunfowoke Street, Adekunle, Mile 12, Ikorodu road, Ikorodu.
Mr Okonofua accused the defendant of abusing Abiodun Iman, the IKEDC worker.
The prosecutor added that the defendant also attempted to slap the complainant for directing him to clear his accumulated debt at the IKEDC office.
He said the offence contravened sections 168(1) and 170(B), punishable under sections 172(B) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, as amended.
The Magistrate, T.A. Shotobi, granted the defendant bail in N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
The magistrate adjourned the case until May 19 for mention.
