Man in court over alleged theft of aluminium worth N1.37 million
The police on Wednesday arraigned a 23-year-old man, Ibrahim Idris, in a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of aluminium valued at over N1.37 million.
The defendant whose address is unknown was charged with stealing and breach of peace but he pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 4 at Oke Nla Str. Ilogbo-Eremi, Oko-Afo, Badagry expressway, Lagos.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by causing pandemonium in the area.
He further said that the stolen aluminium belonged to one Saheed Shokunbi, the complainant.
“He was caught by the people and handed over to the police for prosecution.
“The offence contravenes Sections 168 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015,” the prosecutor said.
The Chief Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum N500,000 with two sureties in the like sum.
He said that one of the sureties should be a community leader.
Mr Layeni adjourned the case until May 14 for mention.
