Man in court over possession of fake currency

The police in Lagos on Monday brought a 28-year-old man, Chibuike Eze, before the Ojo Magistrates’ Court for alleged possession of fake bank notes.
The defendant is standing trial before Magistrate L.K.J Layeni on a two-count charge bordering on possession of fake currency.
The prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on November 23 in the Cele area of Ojo.
He alleged that the defendant was in possession of fake bank notes, knowing the same to be forged.
Mr Uche said the offences contravened section 370 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 370 provides seven years’ imprisonment as punishment for the offence.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Layeni granted the defendant N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until January 8, 2025, for mention.
