A 26-year-old man, Sunday Richard, who stole hair extensions worth N670,000, was sentenced to 10 months in a correctional centre by a magistrates’ court in Kaduna on Wednesday.

Mr Richard, whose address was not provided, pleaded guilty to the one-count charge and was sentenced.

The magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, in his judgement, held that all the evidence tendered convinced the court beyond reasonable doubt.

Mr Emmanuel then sentenced Mr Richard to 10 months in a correctional centre, with no option of a fine.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence at Barnawa, Kaduna, on August 26.

He said a complainant, Helen Christian, of 20b Angola Street, Barnawa, reported the matter at the police station.

He said that while the complainant was serving a customer, the defendant came to the shop under the pretence of buying hair extensions, but she saw something being put inside a bag.

“The complainant saw the defendant put something inside his bag and left the shop without making any payment before the complainant raised an alarm.

“When the complainant raised an alarm, the defendant threw away the stolen items and tried to run away. He was, however, apprehended and handed over to the police,” Mr Leo said.

He further said the offences contravened the Penal Code of Kaduna state, 2017.
