Man jailed 10 years for sexually assaulting minor

A family court sitting in Calabar on Friday sentenced a 28-year-old man, Uduak Aniete, to 10 years’ imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor.
Justice Franca Isoni found Mr Aniete guilty and sentenced him to prison without the option of a fine.
According to the charge, the convict committed the offence in 2020 in the Nyanghasang area of Calabar after luring the victim to an apartment with the pretext of helping her get a job.
The claimant’s counsel, James Ibor, said the decision on the matter was delayed because the judge went on a national assignment.
“The matter received a speedy hearing and was decided as soon as another judge was appointed,” he said.
Mr Ibor said the state had a proactive family court system and that every sexual assault case was diligently prosecuted.
