An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, on Tuesday, sentenced a 25-year-old man, Lekan Adewale, to 12 months’ imprisonment for breaking into a house to steal a phone and other items valued at N386,000.

The police charged the convict, whose address was not provided, with stealing, burglary and conspiracy, after he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The magistrate, O. O. Okiki, said the prosecution counsel had proven beyond reasonable doubt that Adewale was guilty of the charge preferred against him.

Ms Okiki sentenced the convict to 12 months’ imprisonment without any option of fine.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp E. O. Adaraloye, had told the court that the convict and others still at large, committed the offences on June 9, at about 1.35 a.m. at Adefarasin, Ilogbo area, Ota.

Ms Adaraloye said the convict and his accomplices conspired to break into the house of one Adeniyi Oluwatosin, to steal an Infinix Hot 12 Smartphone, LG Television and other items valued at N386,000.

He said the offences contravened Sections 411,415 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
