Man jailed for attempting to steal in Abuja

On Thursday, the Abuja Grade 1 Area Court sentenced a 20-year-old man, Ishaiku Shehu, to one-month of imprisonment for attempted stealing.
Mr Shehu, a resident of Agwan Gwari, Abuja, had pleaded guilty to a count charge of attempt to steal and begged for leniency.
The judge, Saminu Suleiman, gave Shehu an option of a N50,000 fine.
Suleiman warned him to stay away from crime.
He said the punishment would have been more if Mr Shehu had not spared the court the rigour of a protracted trial.
The prosecutor, Chinedu Ogada, told the court that, on December 27, Dahiru Shehu, who resided behind Emir’s Palace, Zuba, Abuja, reported the case at Zuba Police Station.
Mr Ogada said the convict entered the complainant’s compound without his consent.
He said the convict was caught while attempting to open the complainant’s house door with a master key.
Mr Ogada said during the police investigation, the convict made a confessional statement.
He said the offence contravened section 95 of the Penal Code.
