The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has secured a conviction against a man who instigated a mob attack on its officials in Yola, Adamawa state.

A statement by the corps public education officer (CPEO), Olusegun Ogungbemide, on Wednesday in Abuja said the move underscored the FRSC’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its personnel.

Mr Ogungbemide said that the convict, Nuhu Isah, was sentenced to six months imprisonment with an option of N20,000 fine by a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Jimeta, Yola.

This, he said, was after being found guilty of criminally intimidating the FRSC patrol team.

According to Mr Ogungbemide, Mr Isah was arrested on Jan. 5 after recording an FRSC patrol team and inciting passengers to attack them while they performed their lawful duties.

“The defendant’s actions were a clear violation of the law, and the FRSC would not tolerate any form of intimidation or attack on its personnel,” he said.

Reacting, the Corps Marshal, FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, commended the court for upholding the law and reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to ensuring safety on Nigerian roads.

Mr Mohammed warned that the FRSC would not tolerate any form of intimidation or attack on its personnel, emphasising that the Corps remained committed to creating a safer road environment for all users.

He urged road users to contribute to improving safety on highways instead of engaging in acts that compromised safer road use.

He said that the FRSC would continue to work tirelessly to ensure that all road users adhere to traffic rules and regulations.

“The conviction is seen as a significant milestone in the FRSC’s efforts to ensure the safety and security of its personnel and serves as a deterrent to those who may seek to intimidate or attack FRSC officials in the course of their duties,” he said.

In line with FRSC’s commitment towards ensuring free traffic flow and prompt response to emergencies during the festive period, FRSC deployed its entire workforce to man the nation’s highways.
