Man jailed six months for stealing perimeter fence wire

A chief magistrates’ court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, has sentenced one Idowu Fowora, 62, to six months’ imprisonment for cutting and stealing perimeter fence wire, valued at N100,000.
The judge, O. O. Latunji, however, gave an option of a N30,000 fine.
Ms Latunji said she convicted and sentenced Mr Fowora based on the evidence tendered before her and his guilty plea.
She then advised the convict to stay away from any form of crime after completing his jail term.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Oluseye Akinola, told the court that the convict committed the crime on May 4, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Ibadan.
According to the prosecutor, Mr Fowora was apprehended close to Chi Farm at Ajanla, illegally cutting the wire used as a perimeter fence along the road.
Ms Akinola noted that the convict had earlier confessed to the police that it was his second time of being involved in the same crime in the area.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 38 Vol. II, Law of Oyo State.
