Suspected bandits have reportedly killed Abubakar Gari, a resident of Dukku town in Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State, and abducted his wives on Friday night.

Reports indicated that the assailants stormed Mr Gari’s resident in the middle of the night, shot him dead and took his wives to an unknown location.

It was gathered that Mr Gali had since been buried on Saturday in line with Islamic burial rites.

Reports also revealed that shortly after the deceased’s burial, the assailants reportedly contacted the family and demanded a ransom of N50 million for the release of the abducted women.

Contacted for comment, Niger police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said he would verify the development and get back with details.

The latest development came days after armed bandits invaded Tugan-Makeri, Konsoko and Pissa communities in Borgu LGAs of the state, killed scores of residents, kidnapped several others and destroyed properties.

Meanwhile, residents have continued to raise significant concerns about the need for the government to deepen efforts in ensuring safety of lives and properties in the state.
